Nearing the end of 2018, with talk turning to resolutions, I decided that my focus should be on wellness because, well, I’m a bit of a mess. My eyes are saddled with bags. My saddle bags are saddled with bags. My bag is full of crayons and crushed Chex mix. And something has got to give.
Here’s the problem. What does wellness even mean?
Let’s start with diet and exercise, since it’s the new year and that’s where most of us are putting our focus. There are a million different exercise options, and I know what I like and don’t like to do, so that’s not too tough, but diet is an enigma.
When I stepped on the scale this week, I no joke took a pregnancy test to make sure I wasn’t actually eating for two. That waaaaa waaaaa you hear is just me crying.
So, obviously I have to stop it with the wine and cheese and cookies, but what takes its place? Keto, paleo, Mediterranean, milk is good for you, milk is bad for you, eat all the meat, don’t eat any…and I need a drink, except I gave up drinking to be healthy. This stress and indecision is not good for my wellness.
As a means of organizing this initiative (and keeping myself accountable), I thought I would write it down here. I’m no GOOP, so I really have no idea what I’m doing, but I’m going to break it down as follows to start:
Body Health:
- Diet
- Exercise
- Vitamins
- Doctor appointments
- Skin care
Home Health:
- Get organized
- De-clutter (Sell, Give)
- Fiscal responsibility (find savings, limit unnecessary purchases, eliminate waste)
- Be present with the kids (put down the phone)
Mental Health:
- Meditation/Mindfulness
- Spend time with the people I love
- Do good deeds
- Have fun
- Make time for myself
- Read and write
I’m spending this week digging out from under the holidays, so full throttle Wellness 2019 starts on January 7!
